it's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshiney day

okay, so there are very few moments in my life when that song is more appreciated than annoying (things can only get so bright before my squinting eyes start to cramp up and my head aches...), but today is a great day. sunshine outside. rice krispie treats for the taking inside. and carson dressed himself today in distressed jeans and a long-sleeved t-rex t-shirt underneath his church blazer. it reminds me of ryan seacrest, actually, and we HAVE been watching a little american idol...hmm...

paul felt a little earthquake out at work today (about 40-50 miles away from home). supposedly it originated in nevada. it's the first earthquake he's ever been in. he called to see if i felt anything here--i didn't, did anyone who lives around here feel it? still. and to think those homeowners insurance people laughed and tried to talk us out of paying extra for earthquake insurance (they seriously did, and we seriously didn't listen to them. "we do live on a fault line, after all," says my sweetheart).

we discussed "freakonomics" at my book club today. interesting book with interesting ideas, but i'm not buying them all. stuff to think about, but i don't think it changed my life, other than to alleviate any guilt i might feel about sticking the kids in front of the tv all day.... (just kidding, joyce & mom...)

carson's been out riding his bike like a maniac the past few days. it's great! i kinda forgot what exercise is like. the other day, he did a 1+ mile loop, but those last two blocks were killer. "my legs are soooo sooooooy (sore), mommy. i can hiedly even move dem!" it's all about conditioning, my boy; keep those muscles moving, and they'll get stronger. (says the lady who starts panting if i run up the stairs too fast.)

layla seems older and older these days. she has 80-year-old-woman mannerisms trapped inside an almost-2-year-old body. and we get a kick out of her, paul especially. she can make him laugh so hard. now there's one girl who can get anything--ANYTHING--out of her old man with a smile and a cheesy "puh-leeeeeease, daddy-o!" cute thing.

Hey, Britt... I was on my spin bike this a.m. when I heard some weird tapping, and looked to see my exercise bands hanging on the doorknob behind me swaying and bumping into the door. I was perplexed, until my little brother told me he and his roomies had also felt the tremors. The hangers in his closet were swaying all over and his cologne bottle shimmied over to the edge of a shelf. So I guess that's what it was. Crazy. I remember watching scary earthquake movies in Junior High, because, as Paul points out, we live on a fault line. I try not to think about it.

Carson a.k.a Ryan is so cute, and I'm happy you've been having fun days outside. You guys probably live up above the red air, don't you. We're just down here choking on the smog. :) All I can say is bring the spring, please.

Hey Brittney, I felt the earthquake as I was reading the paper in the morning. I all of a sudden started swaying back and forth, and I thought that my legs/bum were having some strange spasm, but then I heard about the earthquake on the radio and decided that I wasn't having strange spasms! It was the first time I have ever felt an earthquake, so that is kinda cool.
