fine, all lies. but we do have our squabbles. the following one in particular needs immediate resolution before things get out of hand.
question: how do YOU and/or your household identify the items below?
do you call them:
(a) all "spatulas"
(b) "rubber spatulas" and a "pancake spatula"
(c) "rubber scrapers" and a "spatula"
(d) none of the above
i seriously am curious as to which of us the majority in this oh-so-official polling system agree with. so as to not skew your responses (we need a statistically significant voting pool, you know), i'll post paul's and my opinions on this important subject in a few days.

As a frequent kitchen tool user, I would have to say that those are both spatulas. I've never really differentiated between the two in names but in sight only. If you are rachael ray, there really should be a 3rd choice. The largest blue spatula is actually called a spoonula. Good luck figuring out this one for I believe there is really no correct answer.
all spatulas.
all spatulas at our house too. mostly because i'm lazy, and adding the words "rubber" or "pancake" in front of one to differentiate is way too much work. i figure if i ask nick to "get me the spatula please," he'll know which one i need based on what i'm making.
cause you wanted to know ALL of that.
all spatulas for me too.
all spatulas here. Sometimes if clarification is needed I'll say "the big one" (Meaning a Huge one we have for flipping pancakes and whatever else) "The metal one" (We have one metal one for taking cookies off the sheet or whatever) or "the red one" (referring to a red silicone one that scrapes the cookie bowl) or "the black one" (a smaller version of the red one). But these detailed and personalized names are only if the question "which spatula" is asked.
hmmm...Ryan chooses option A; but I'm afraid I go by "scraper thingies" (the blue plasticy ones) and spatula or "flipper" for the other kind. But I'm just a weirdo and that's all. I think most normal people probably go by spatula for both.
Gosh - I don't think I have EVER stopped to ponder this important question before. Now that I have I realize that I refer to all of the above as spatulas. However, further thought brings me to the realization that this could cause serious problems in a cooking crisis. I mean just imagine if you needed to hurry and flip a burning pancake and in asking for a spatula you were handed a spoon spatula. You would have a major crisis on your hands.
I think that I would say rubber spatula and a spatula, probably because that is the way I remember my mom differentiating between the two.
I distinctly remember being told that the ones on the left (the blue ones) are spatulas, and that the other (the one on the right) is not. I think that it was referred to as the "pancake turner." While I accepted the idea of not calling it a spatula, I never did like the idea of calling it a pancake turner ... I mean, that is highly limiting. So, ever since I was about ten years old, that cooking utensil has been in labeling limbo, and I have simply avoided ever trying to actually use a word to refer to it in any way. A difficult thing. Usually I have to feign a seizure or something if someone gets too insistent. Anyways, I'll be interested in the results of this poll, because I don't want you and Paul to be beating each other up anymore ... this rocky marriage stuff has just got to stop.
Yep, all are spatulas!!!:)
I'll say that the first picture is spatula and the second picture is "flipper". Yes--we sometimes even call it a "flipper thing".
a) all spatulas.
(Now that you're blog is private I forget to check in on you guys) sor!
