escape artist

i knew it was coming. i could feel it in my bones. but i ignored the signs and willed them to disappear. but appear they have, in all their neon glory.

it's official: addie can climb out of her crib.
it's also official: addie can open doors.

addie can do both of these things, quietly, within a matter of 1 minute, casually joining us at naptime in the kitchen and politely requesting a "tippy uh mote" (sippy of milk) as though she was a 20-year-old joining friends for brunch.

i'm all for a kid's independence. i mean, the ability to dress oneself and brush one's own teeth and read oneself a story when feeling bored--bring all that on. but with this crazy girl (who walked herself home from a house more than a block away, crossing at least one street in the process...without anyone knowing she escaped in the first place...making her appearance with the most patient of knocks on our garage door), it makes paul and me a wee bit nervous. actually, a lot nervous.

anyone know where we can buy door chain locks in bulk?

We had the same problem with Ethan . . . those child handles that go on doors are lifesavers! They are on almost every handle in our house!
