carson's gone on a weeklong camping trip with grampa larry, gramma smart, aunts, uncles, and cousins. our house is quiet without him. we all miss his constant cheerful chatter, but he calls every night and has adorable conversations with me, then paul. it sounds like he's having the time of his life -- getting to stay up 2 hours past bedtime every night, going on hikes, getting squirt guns and stuffed animals from gramma & grampa, seeing elk and buffalo and tons of other animals, etc. etc.
at the end of each phone conversation, though, he provides this unsolicited assurance:
"and, dad?"
[yes, buddy?]
"i'll be home real soon, okay?"
[you got it, kiddo.]
it's sweet.
my favorite is the fact that, mid-conversation, he'll say, "kay, bye!" and hang up...no matter if we still wanted to chat. it's cute, though. and, after all, there are precious minutes to be had staying UP past BEDTIME!!!
kay, bye.
