but i just wanted to document a couple of cute things layla's doing at this age.
1) she, like probably all girls her age, is obsessed with the color pink. if something isn't pink, however, she's not deterred -- she simply renames it. for example, my blue shirt becomes "bluish pink," and her orange lunch plate "pinkish orange."
2) she is quite the little mommy -- her doll, lulu, gets more love and attention than layla herself probably gets. a conversation i overheard the other day:
carson: what do you want to be when you grow up, lays?
layla: um, a mommy.
carson: yeah! dat's good. what else?
layla: [silence]
carson: what else do you want to be?
layla: a mommy.
carson: and nothing else?
layla: nope.
carson: oh. okay. I'M going to be a daddy AND a zookeepah.
layla: yep.
3) her official name for the upcoming sibling is The Baby Sister. not bad. so far, we have that and "tractor paul smart" to decide between. things could be worse...
4) she's a little warbler and loves to sing. at church, right after one of the hymns when everyone else was putting their book away, you could hear layla's little voice singing, "i'll prepare myself while i am yoooouuuuuung, DIS is my sacred doooooooooooteeeeeeee." cute.
5) she has a sixth sense: she can find any and all things "dora" within a 10-mile radius.
6) she's our sweetheart. paul and i are not seriously worried about being able to love this next little girl...but sometimes we wonder if it's possible to love her as much as our little ladybug.

she sounds like such a sweetheart - and i love that carson is going to be a daddy and a zookeeper! :)
ps-i just read your scary kid-missing post. yikes! i know JUST how you feel as i lost cole on tuesday at the biggest library ever. nothing like a lunatic mom yelling "cole" at the top of her lungs in a nice quiet library. ugh! :)
oh, totally, jami, the library is something else. i'm just glad you found him! rascal. :)
Hey Brittany, just wanted to let you know, if you're going to be in town for the reunion, that a bunch of us are getting together at Howard Amon Park on Friday, July 25th, at 5pm. Bring your own dinner, drinks, and stuff for the kiddos to get wet in:) Hope to see you there:)
Shanel, I would LOVE to be there. But we have a family reunion of sorts (Paul's fam) this weekend, and I'll miss it. Will you please tell everyone hello for me? And, if you happen to collect any email addresses, send them my way? I'm seriously bummed I won't get to see you and your cute kidlets. Next time I'm in town, though... See you in 2011.
p.s. What, you're not going to the bar that night, as scheduled by the ad hoc reunion committee? Tsk tsk. I'm disappointed.
I love this age! Seriously, don't you ever wonder what life is going to be like once our kids have outgrown this age of sweet innocence?
We miss you. Olivia said the other day, "Remember my friend Carson? Why did he move away?" I feel very guilty that she thinks you moved away like you live far away. I must remedy the situation.
