- Because "true" fall, where the leaves are vibrant and still attached, is typically short, we had FHE up the canyon on Monday with Matt, Val, and Annie. What with the beautiful background, we thought it might be a good chance for a family photo op, so I took care to comb the kids' hair. Unfortunately, nature was against us - it was rainy, windy, and pretty cold, and Carson just wanted to go back home.

But we found this cave of sorts about 30 yards up the mountain from where we parked, so we moved our picnic in there. Yummy warm chili & homemade bread (heh...I warmed up the chili from a can while Val spent her afternoon slaving in the kitchen to produce the homemade bread). Carson was so proud of himself that he wasn't scared of the cave, he wanted to spend the night there. We had a hard time convincing him it probably wasn't in his best interest; I still don't know if he believes us. Of course, wouldn't you know it, the rain stopped after dinner, but the window of opportunity for family photos had pretty much slammed shut (we forgot the napkins).

- Carson's been cracking us all up with his statements and observations lately. The other day, he asked me if I could make him "lovely" by doing his hair. Yikes. Last night, I was watching High School Musical (don't ever take movie recommendations from Beehives, by the way), and Carson came and curled up next to me to watch it with me; he kept repeating random bits of their dialogue and then laughing hysterically to himself. He was definitely more entertaining than the movie.

- We're one coat of paint away (and the reinstallation of all necessities) from finishing our infamous master bathroom. I'm getting antsy. I've already peeled off the sick wallpaper from our other bathroom, taking great care this time to leave the drywall underneath undamaged. Paul has warned me not to get ahead of myself, but I just can't help it. Hopefully this next project will be easier and faster...maybe by 2009...

- Layla's done with her high chair. She refuses to sit in it and eat, preferring instead her booster seat at the table. I've noticed that most families have their "set" positions at the table (we used to as well), but lately Carson has been shaking things up a bit by enjoying the change of scenery from a different vantage point at every meal. One thing that doesn't change is that one of us is inevitably on a folding chair. I'm currently on the hunt for another dining room chair. It's not easy to find just one wooden chair (it has to look a particular way to blend in with our eclectic set...I know, picky picky).

- I've had a lot of writing/editing work to do, which makes for some early mornings/late nights. Good thing I'm completely comfortable with my nerd-hood and enjoy it. And we're able to save most of the pennies it brings in, so that's happy.

wow britt- you look fabulous! (as does your family). Looks like sooo much fun. Can we have FHE up here next week? I'll bring the trees, you and val can bring soup and bread. and rae can bring dessert, and kathy can bring the laughs. :)
stephanie - good idea, i'm in. and i'm sure that would be a very spiritual FHE.
can i please just note the chuckle i got from your casual offering, "i'll bring the trees"?
kathy - all our fhes are spiritual. aren't yours?
high school musical, huh? gee, guess i'll have to go pick that one up...
andrea - yep. it's as good as it sounds. (PLEASE note the dripping sarcasm before you do something you're going to regret.)
Britt, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get cocky over how beautiful you are. Fine, I know you won't--but SER. You are so gorgeous. I love your hair all curly like that. It makes me happy just looking at you :) Als...this looks like a JOYOUS occasion. Even if you were in a cave. Caves are cool, last I checked.
What beautiful photos... love the little chili mouths! Please listen to all of us who say you are so gorgeous, Brittney. Truly!
I'm so excited to see the finished bathroom project! Congrats on that! Perhaps I'll find a bathroom-warming gift. :) Love ya!
