random musings

1. today at church, a lady (not in my ward) saw me and gasped, "wow, what a big bump you have there!" thanks, stranger.

2. carson's current favorite joke: knock knock (who's there), orange (orange who?) orange you going to open the door?

3. layla's stellar follow-up joke that she made up all by herself: knock knock (who's there), pink (pink who?) pink you going to open the door?

4. yesterday, paul sawed off several huge limbs that were hanging down into our driveway, then cut them down a bit and enlisted the help of the kids to help haul them into a pile. carson's comment: "let's take care of dese bad boys."

5. carson's in his new room downstairs now, and we're prepping his old room for layla. i picked out a beautiful red hue to paint under the chair rail, and paul and i started painting it last night. bad news: it's hideous. paul asked what the name of it was, guessing, "prostitute?" it seriously looks like cheap-lipstick red. sigh. back to square one. i hate choosing paint colors.

6. layla and carson love to wrestle/swordfight/whatever. the only problem is, carson is about double her size/weight. it's hard to teach principles when she instigates nearly all play-fights but is the one who ends up bawling from getting hurt. is this something they just need to learn on their own?

7. we miss katrina and jordan around here. (they moved to oklahoma for jordan to go to dental school.) and my parents. (my dad's the mission pres in sweden for the next 3 years.)

8. in an effort to de-clutter the church-going experience, we told the kids they could pick one "reverent" (a.k.a. quiet) toy to take. carson chose a little car, layla chose her backpack. i sneaked in some crayons and notepads. they were neither more nor less reverent than usual, but our bench was a lot less cluttered, so i think we might keep this going. any advice, anyone?

9. after over a year and a half, we're re-posting our gate so we'll have a fully fenced-in backyard again. the cement block that had to come out of the ground was about 2 feet deep, and we had to pull it out with our 4runner. it was like the never-ending digging escapade, and i'm sure the neighbors who saw us were laughing at my big-bellied attempts in reaching down and scooping out dirt from the hole. one word: awkward.

10. the end.

nice re-cap of your life right now. i had to laugh at the knock-knock jokes - we have those here too. . . at least THEY think they are funny :)

A perfect "day in the life...." recap. Sorry about the cheap red lipstick paint. Wish I could help you out on that one.

I've painted some red in the past. Wanna know what colors I used? I might have some leftovers in the basement that you can try out. BTW, red takes several coats.
