last night, we attended a benefit dinner at golden corral (it's your typical buffet-style restaurant, complete with overly patterned carpet to hide the nastiness on the floor and chipped faux-ceramic plates). carson had earned a gift certificate there (for, ahem, 100% homework so far in his academic career) and was proud to present it to the cashier.
after filling his plate with the most delectable of foodstuffs (popcorn shrimp, steak fries, peaches, and pears), he sat down to munch happily while paul and layla went to fill her plate. two comments made me laugh out loud:
comment #1: wow, mom, look at this ice!!!! (pause) this sure is a faaaaaaaaancy restaurant!
comment #2: layla's been gone a long time. she must be finding some SERIOUS food.
aw, carson. i sure love this kid.

Cute! It's been hard to adjust after spending an entire weekend with those kids...then nothing! We miss them. And you and Paul, of course.
they miss you, michelle. seriously. they're always talking about the stuff they did with you and shay. we'll have to have you over for dinner again. every week!
Cute kids, Brittney. My kids never got Golden Corral gift certificates. Homework rewards are improving these days.
No, seriously. Carson is the coolest kid. I love him! And I also love buffets for kids- no waiting, they can get just what they want, and yes, very fancy. Even though they make me want to throw up a little, they definitely have their place in the world.
I'm sorry I missed you too. That is horrible you guys had the swine flu! I will call you before I get to Logan next time. It would be fun to see you and your kidos.
Oh and I don't know what you heard on your answering machine. I started talking and then I heard another beep. I didn't know if you heard the first part of my message or the second part or all of it. Anyway, We will have to get together sometime!
A gifty gift in the mail? I'm excited!
Jordan and I were talking about funny Carson memories today at dinner. Our favorite is the time we were driving to Soda and Carson was being super quiet, just staring thoughtfully out the window, when he suddenly yelled, "what if I sat on it!?!"..."it" meant the geyser. Anyway, the point of that is we love and miss Carson. He's got such a great outlook on life!
