lately i've been making a concerted effort to spend more time with my kids. like, the high-quality "i would absolutely love to stop what i'm doing and build a sweet lego spaceship with you" kind of time. not just the old "i'm making dinner and you're at the table doing homework and isn't this great because we're in almost the same room" kind. even though there's certainly a time and place for dinner to be made and homework to be done. right? right.
what i'm saying is, i'm trying to combat my innate selfishness by either (a) totally hanging out with my kids and doing what they want, or (b) finding ways to welcome/invite/involve them in what i'm doing wherever possible and appropriate. i'm about 32% successful in actually doing this, but i'm working on it!
as you can see by this morning's photo shoot (below) for the ol' clothes blog. the girls really really wanted to be involved. i really really wanted to just get it done. then lightning struck (not literally of course) and i let them join in and we all laughed and took pics and said "cheeeeeeese" to our hearts' content. then they got bored.
it's so simple. and it makes everybody so happy. wish i could remember to do stuff like this (aka, have patience and have fun) more often.

I was inspired by your 32% and growing undivided attention with your kids. I sat down today and built a LEGO house with my 4-year old. He often gets left out with the girls playing. And it's hard for me to give up my selfish 'kid-free' time (if there is such a thing) to play what they want and how they want. So thanks! And my 4-year old thanks you too. :)
you have some amazingly cute kids!!! aww can't wait for mine... in 2 or 3 yrs after marriage!! =)
