calling all parentals of 4-year-olds

carson's 4th b-day is this sunday, and we need help on ideas of what to get him. he loves building stuff -- he'll do that for a lot longer than imaginary "play." like legos/thomas train tracks/blocks (all of which we already have enough). i have some ideas, but i'm just wondering: what's been a big hit with YOUR 4-year-old? what was a big hit with you when YOU were 4?

p.s. marty, i'm a little afraid of what you might come up with here...let's try to keep your ideas (a) age-appropriate and (b) budget-friendly. granted, carson would probably LOVE his own pirate ship & crew and personal island in the bahamas fully stocked with gold- and pearl-filled treasure chests, but if i'm being honest, that's going to really put a damper on his 5-year b-day.

You probably already have one but my girls both (age 3 1/2 and 6 1/2) LOVE their Leapsters. Perfect toy for long car rides, vacations, and night-time wind downs. We truly don't leave home with out them. Add as a added bonus.... they have educational value :) (well, sort of).

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA! seriously, trina, i'm laughing OUT LOUD. i totally forgot about that.

for everyone else: when asked what he wanted for his b-day, carson replied, "anything you give me that i can play with...and...a toothpick." or something like that. he even clarified that he wanted a toothpick "so that we can all play with it." is this kid for real?

He must have seen my blog post about how great toothpicks are. That Carson is one smart kid.

My mom had a set of tinker toys a little while back but threw them away in between visits since they were old. The boys keep asking about them. They were at the eye doctor the other day and the boys had a BLAST. Hopefully we will get them from Santa this year.

although cole is only 3 ... he's the same way, loves to build, etc ... but someone mentioned a bike and if he doesn't have one i bet he'd LOVE it! we found a great one - and really resonable at wally-world (aka walmart - not my favorite shopping place but it's for toys :) ) ... anyhoo...i can't get him off of it, and all this winter he even rode it in the basement when he couldn't go outside. :) if not a bike, i'll have to ponder. :) xoxo
