kids will be kids

Carson turned 7 last week. (To which I say: how????) At 7, he's a voracious reader, a helpful brother, a creative and imaginative thinker, a fast bike rider, flat-footed, and a lover of all soups. Carson has a strong moral compass and a wonderfully nerdy sense of humor. He's excellent at working transformers and building lego creations. His heart is huge, and he is a sweet, sensitive soul. We love you, C.P. Happy birthday.
(He chose a rain-forest themed cake for his birthday. Below are some of his favorite details, although we had a fabulous time creating the entire thing. One of my favorite characteristics about Carson is how enthusiastic he gets about stuff--his reactions alone make a lot of projects worthwhile.)

People told me, "It'll come," when I bemoaned the decision we made to get a dog last fall when (because) our then-4-year-old was beyond phobic and paranoid about such creatures. Hard to believe that a mere few months later, she's as loving a dog-owner as can be. Like this morning, when she begged me to "take a few pictures, mom, isn't he so cute?" Yes, but not nearly as cute as you, my dear Lays.

I was heading out to the backyard to tackle a few work projects on Saturday. Addie wanted to help. This was the uniform she deemed appropriate. It was probably 85-90 degrees. I told her there wasn't snow outside, so did she want to leave her hat and scarf inside? She didn't even qualify my question with a response. Glad to have you along, helper bee.
