Wind Caves hike

Last week we hiked up to the Wind Caves with Jones and Joyce. The kids were all troopers, although I must say the Hiking Award 2011 has to go to Addie & Logan. Those two were fearless, tireless (almost), whineless hikers. Fun to hike with. And...Logan even toted his own (small) waterbottle in that (enormous) backpack, so he gets an extra gold star.
I think it helped that the rests were numerous and the licorice was plentiful. Jones & Joyce had to turn back before we reached the top, but my kids (to their initial dismay) had the time and pressed on to finish the job.

They ended up being glad we finished. The view was awesome, the Capri Sun reward sweet, and the wildflowers lovely. 'Cept Carson spotted his first snake, which was not a high point in his life, to say the least. There's something about finishing a hike with kids that's super rewarding. And exhausting. Feather in everyone's proverbial cap.
Addie even gave the gig a two-thumbs-up. Which is the ultimate compliment around our house lately, to be superceded only by Carson's claim of "all the thumbs in the world up."

Me, I'll take Addie's two and call it a victory.

I can totally hear Carson saying "all the thumbs up in the world"! And the bottom pic of Carson and Layla is beyond adorable!

the wind caves hike is one of my favorites. have yet to try it with the kids though i have debated it many times. carson, indiana jones and i have one thing in common -- we hate snakes! nothing would be amiss in my life if i never saw another snake again!! urgh!!
