Pinkalicious x3

Nothing makes Addie happier than being able to be twins with Violet. And nothing makes Layla happier than wearing a more grown-up version of the twinnerificiousness.

That's right. You read that right.

Happy Thursday night, everybody.

The Lorax on Life

We got The Lorax dvd at Christmas. I don't know if you all have seen it or not, but it's one of our new favorite shows...evidenced by the fact that we actually own the dvd. Because we never buy dvds. But that's neither here nor there.

ANYway. There's a song on there that goes, "Every-body needs a thneed..." It's quite catchy.

The girls were singing it and rocking out a few days ago. Then they started changing the words and laughing hysterically at their new lyric-writing aptitudes.
For example:
"Every-body needs some pjs."
"Every-body needs an apple."
"Every-body needs some candy."
etc.etc. You get the idea.

Then Layla busted out with: "Every-body needs a fam'ly."

Addie paused her dancing, caught off-guard in a moment of thought, and then exclaimed,
"Oh, yes yes yes! That is a 'PORtant one!!"

Love.

Speaking of 'portant: Who stole the last 9 months from me? HOW is my baby this big?!

(And also: How is my baby still this bald?! :) )

Violet, Addie-style

Every morning, I let Addie pick out what Violet's going to wear that day. (Sometimes I modify things on Sundays, but I try not to.) The only requirements are that her clothes be weather-appropriate.

Addie takes this "chore" very seriously and has not disappointed in her choices. Sometimes she even has titles for the outfits. I started snapping photos each day, because I didn't want to forget these ensembles. Ever.

This one is called "Mrs. Cute." Obviously.

This one is called "Hunter-Girl." I had to ask how this outfit was huntery, and Addie patiently explained it's because of the hat. Looks like a pretty normal outfit, overall. Kind of disappointing.

Ahh, that's better. That's the Addie-style we know and love. No name for this one, but the tights speak for themselves.
p.s. Raise your hand if you're in love with those chub-legs (and chins!) like we are. So. Cute.

This one is called "Candy Cane."

May your day be merry and bright.

On a parent's words being misinterpreted...

Sweet little Addie. She did a lot of this yesterday...

...and she's feeling better today. In fact, I overheard her playing and giggling with Layla & her friend this afternoon. Which was adorable until my ears stumbled upon this little nugget of a conversation:

(playing barbies) Layla: Addie, your girl is going to marry Ken.
Addie: No! I don't WANT to marry Ken. I hate him.
Layla: Why?
Addie: Because of his bum.
[Editor's note: Our particular Ken doll does have a hard time keeping his shorts on for some reason.]
Layla: Oh, Addie. You HAVE to marry Ken. You get what you get, and you don't get upset.
Addie: (pause, then, resignedly) Okay.
Layla: You love him now, don't you?
Addie: Yes! And I love his bum!

Hoo boy.

Note to self: Throw strip-happy Ken doll away. Also, discuss with family the privilege and importance of choosing for yourself who you marry.

a wall o' toys...and stuff

The other day, the little ladies donned their swimsuits a la mermaidhood and took turns jumping "into" a blue fleece blanket (pool) in the living room. Somehow that adorable playtime activity morphed into their creating the Great Wall of China out of various items from throughout our house. (Read: the worst kind of mess to clean up.) Seen below:
Really, girls? Newspapers? Extra swimsuits? Thousands upon thousands of books? Is that the best building stuff you could come up with? Nuts.
The worst part was how happy and proud of themselves they were. I felt like crying but couldn't help but smile at their mess-terpiece. It kept them happily entertained for several hours, and Layla was a champ and even cleaned it up before dinner. But, honestly? I'd rather find playtime remnants like this:
Aww. Stumbling across a tucked-in doll scene is precious. Girls are sweethearts.
