happy birthday, addie

Addie turned the big 0-3 this month. She went special birthday shopping with gramma Joyce and picked out barbie Belle and a horse...two hot commodities around here amongst the young female population. She also picked out this fabulous neon outfit (complete with tutu and half-and-half legging shorts) she's sporting in all these pics...and Joyce was happy to oblige.

Selected birthday dinner: mac & cheese, broccoli, peaches, and strawberry milk. Of all the foods in the world to celebrate with, I found this meal to be amazingly balanced for a 3-year-old's selection. Nice.

Lots of excitement and help in opening her presents...the coup de resistance being this fabulous bike that Paul had picked up that very day and brought home from work. The kids rode bikes back and forth in front of our house for a long time that evening, and each time Addie passed by, I'd notice something different about the bike. The think is glitzed-out on all counts (perfect); my personal favorite feature is the baby seat on the back. She loves it.
She specifically ordered "flower cupcakes" (and had been ordering them since about March...about four times a day) in lieu of birthday cake. I showed her pics of different types of flower cupcakes, and these are the ones she chose. Prob because it's extra candy on top of sprinkles on top of frosting on top of cake. Hellooooo sugar overload. And just in case that didn't do the trick, we threw a couple scoops of ice cream on the side. Bingo.

At age 3, Addie loves tutu-type skirts, has a huge imagination, plays dolls and cars and blocks and barbies and legos all equally, is fiercely independent (except when it comes to using the toilet...still needs help with that...) and strong-willed, has a keen sense of humor and especially laughs unfailingly at jokes and/or comments including "potty talk," loves to give two-thumbs-up to stuff, adores Charlie, claims she is so big and gets mad when Paul or I call her our "baby," loves to laugh (and has an adorable little gut-laugh) and entertain others, can be the most exasperating specimen of a human being on the planet and yet conversely the most endearing, and is the absolute light of our lives. We're trying to point her in the right direction early on in life, because once she gets an idea in her head, she goes for it full-tilt (or is it kilter?).

We love you, Booster. Happy birthday (or, as you say it, "bairh-day").

her new outfit looks suspiciously similar to the swimsuit she was wearing at the tetons. She must've been missing that wedgie-maker.
